Beating the Heat, Mod Cloth Style

On the 15 minute walk to my office this morning, the banana I packed turned to complete mush. My normally pin straight locks transformed into a ball of frizz and the perfume I spritzed on before leaving the house…well, let’s just say it was overpowered by eau de sweat.

Inspired by this street melting New York heatwave and my borderline crazy love for Mod Cloth, I decided to create a list of the 5 items that’ll keep you funky fresh in this intense heat. As for hair and makeup, I recommend a ponytail and waterproof everything. Good luck out there!

1. Tart Berry Rum Dress: This mouthwatering creation is making me berry happy indeed. Lengthy with braided straps and a super loose cut, you’ll only look insanely hot! And at under $50, this one’s a steal. ($47.99, Modcloth.com)

2. Lavender Sandies Top: I became a little too excited when I saw this breezy blouse. So excited, in fact, that I managed to earn a few stares from my coworkers (who probably thought I finally cracked from all our customer service complaints). I actually own two tops just like this one, minus the polka dots (though they’re really in this season!). Since this was pretty much already extreme heat tested by yours truly, you should add this sheer shirt to your summer wardrobe. And the front pockets are adorable! ($44.99, Modcloth.com)

3. Vest in Class Tunic: This chic tunic makes my life so much easier. As a huge fan of both layering and vests, these sweltering summer months are always difficult. But leave it to Mod Cloth to find us a cute tank with a printed vest that looks even better than the real thing. I’m feeling cooler already. ($57.99, Modcloth.com)

4. Featured Dancer Skirt: This reminds me of my dancing school days, but doesn’t look costume-y at all. The blush color is perfectly in tune with the season’s palette, and the cut is just right for a warm weather piece. Take a bow, Mod Cloth - you’ve created a work of art yet again. ($47.99, Modcloth.com)

5. Iced Coffee Wedge: I’m convinced that this pair of wedges is my sole mate. A cut out design throughout and a bow to top it all off - what else can I say? I’m smitten.($34.99, Modcloth.com)

Saturday Obsession: Jeffrey Campbell x Urban Outfitters

It’s official: these mint green booties are on my must-have list. Can the heeled works of wonder pictured above get any better?

They’re a fresh, minty green and are perforated to boot, meaning you can strut in them all summer long.

You can find the Jeffrey Campbell x Urban Outfitters Macrame Lita bootie online right now. These will set you back $170, but in this case, we’re perfectly willing to shell out the dough.

We can’t wait to go green!

Cute Overload: Rescue Dogs Steal the Show at Stella McCartney’s Spring 2014 Presentation

We’ve long admired vegetarian designer Stella McCartney’s commitment to never use leather or furs in her fashion-forward designs. But for spring 2014, she took her love for furry friends one step further with a presentation that’ll woof you.

While the line’s vibrant hues and playful embellishments had us drooling and the guest list was chock full of A-listers like MadonnaLiv TylerKate Bosworth, and Cameron Diaz, three playful pooches stole the show.

As part of an awareness-raising campaign, McCartney teamed up with the ASPCA to feature a trendsetting canine trio. The label posted a great shot of Harold, a 13-year-old miniature poodle, on Twitter. Just look at that face!  According to his adoption listing, this little guy loves “meeting new people and telling them he loves them and staying right by your side on a leash.” All together now: awww.

Also making a bark were Scooby, a 12-year-old Chihuahua/Shiba Inu mix, and Daisy (not listed). Here’s to hoping these stylin’ doggies find their forever homes soon!

Only YOU Can Help Make the $29 Maxi Dress a Sweet, Sweet Reality

If you’ve been scouring the racks for the perfect affordable maxi dress, we feel your frustration –and so does a-thread. In an effort to bring women budget-friendly (but not ill-fitting and cheap) maxis, the young company has launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund the project.

Aiming to reach their goal of $10,000 by August 9, 2013, a-thread promises a fabulous maxi dress for every $25 donation (two for a $47 donation, three for a $70 donation, and four for a $93 donation). For maxi dress devotees, $1,000 will earn you one of each style produced, in each color, from your own measurements. Talk about star treatment!

Once the project is funded, each maxi will be hand made in Los Angeles out of heavyweight rayon jersey and sell for only $29. Can you say score? The Everyday Maxi will be available in two styles: the scoop neck and the spaghetti strap, with a guaranteed three colors per style. Who else is tempted to shell out for one of each? We sure are!
