Everything You Need to Know Before You Watch the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute Exhibition

Fashion devotees and New Yorkers, the blogosphere has been abuzz with Costume Institute Gala deets all day. From Prada to Coco Rocha, the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute exhibition is sure to be a fete to remember.
Officially, this year’s theme is Schiaparelli and Prada: Impossible Conversations. The night the fashion world has been waiting for will be live-streamed for all to see on Vogue.com from 6:30pm to 8:30pm EST tonight. So, if you’re one of the 99.99% of us who hasn’t scored an invite but can’t get enough of Miuccia Prada and Anna Wintour, read the scoop on the event now and tune in tonight!

According to a Racked report, Prada is going back to the 90s with a limited edition line of “re-edition” bags, like this old-school satin purse originally crafted in 1991. But you’ll have to be in NYC to scoop up one of these; they’re only being sold at Prada’s Broadway, Fifth Avenue, and Madison Avenue locations.
Miuccia herself had a little mishap with a troublesome pair of platform shoes, but don’t worry —you’ll see her tonight.
Oh, and Diego Della Valle (aka the owner of Schiaparelli) is preparing to re-launch the brand in February 2013. Offerings will include accessories, fragrances, makeup, and even a few pieces of clothing.

Coco Rocha will be wearing this vintage Givenchy jumpsuit, which was once worn by Elizabeth Taylor. Way to make an impression! (FYI: It even has a very faint red wine stain on it from its Taylor days).

Meanwhile, Refinery29 reports that Anna Wintour’s staff must attend the gala in pink in honor of Elsa Schiaparelli. Supposedly, she also demanded that her editors “send through photos of themselves in their dresses along with a few different hairstyle options, for approval.”
Let the bitchfest gala begin!
